Dorchester Marathon and Casterbridge Half

The first Dorchester Marathon and Casterbridge Half Marathons,  hosted by White Star Running took place on Sunday 28th May in the beautiful countryside of Dorset. A hot and sunny morning developed as the two events were off and the heat continued until about 1pm when the clouds appeared and the rain was a welcome relief for those running the full marathon.

With camping, a barn dance and a fully equipped race village this event really pulled out the stops to give runners and spectators all they could need to make this a memorable and enjoyable event. There were food tents, a bar, clothing and running supplies, massages, and more! The event was very well organised with excellent marshalls and a great atmosphere from start to finish. Not to mention the bling! Wow those medals were worth striving for, and the t-shirts too were fab.

A special mention must be given to the ‘Love Station’ which was the king of water stations! This was a place where there were lots of marshalls giving out hugs – with or without the cold water sponges in their hands – food, drink and encouragement. Well, why not run the rest of the race with a massive pair of red lipstick kiss marks on your cheek and cider in your belly?!! A great boost to see you through the last 6 miles or so.

The course?        It was mainly lanes and road, a little bit off road but not much.
Hills?        yes! The last 5 miles or so were certainly undulating and combined with the heat this was very challenging, but such a great atmosphere among runners who encouraged one another along.
Organisation?        Fantastic.
Ease of parking and getting to the start?        Couldn’t be better.
Loos?        Plenty at the start and some en route too.
Headphones?        Banned except for the resonating ear conduction type.
Marshals?         Plenty of cheerful faces.
Support?         Lots of clapping and cheering spectators.

This is an event to watch out for next year – not one for a PB – but for the fun experience and a great day out for the whole family. The hosts were friendly and it was very well organised. Parking was in a field less then a minute from the race village and start, so definitely recommended.

Congratulations to the CRN contingent and thanks for the photos.
