Marathon and Half Marathon Training

For all those club members with a spring half marathon or marathon in mind, this is for you!

Marathon training group and half marathon group training sessions start on Saturday 6th January, meeting at LMLC, leaving at 8.30am. Each run is £1

The groups will follow their own structured plans that will enable you to build up to these distances over the next few months. To join the half marathon group you need to be capable of running 6-8 miles without stopping, and to join the marathon group, to be able to run 13 miles without stopping. These are the minimum distances covered respectively, each week distances increasing, apart from the ‘drop back’ weeks, when the distance reduces by 1 or 2 miles, before increasing again the next week.

The training plans are designed for those new to these events as well as more experienced distance runners, and everyone will be catered for the best we can. It is advisable to come to the group every week, or if you are unable to – to complete that week’s distance run on another suitable day to you before the next session.  We strongly advise anyone new to these distances to come to the group every week so the leaders can take you gradually on your journey to becoming a longer distance runner.

We look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday and helping you to achieve your marathon and half marathon goals this spring. Oh, and unless severe warnings are forecast, these sessions are not weather dependant. Be prepared for winter running conditions, wear suitable clothing and footwear, remember your gels and hydration, and carry a mobile phone if you wish to. It may come in handy, although we hope you won’t need it for anything but the odd selfie lol!!
