Autumn News

Here’s the latest news from your club!

Free CRN Running top – Members don’t forget to order your free club top, one per member if you haven’t already done so. There’s a news article on here all about that. Please use the Contact Us page to let us know what you’d like, or see Sharon at a club night for an order form.

High Viz Reminder – this is a must for the evening runs now, preferably with reflective parts, and of course wear lights and heel clips if you have them for the best chance of being seen.

Dark Lane Runs – on the first Monday of the month from November all groups except the beginners will be experiencing dark lane runs. That means no streetlights, and the lanes can be wet and slippery too. For these runs a head torch is essential, and as much high viz as you can wear !! By all means bring a small carry torch too, if you please. There are a few spare torches for borrowing but don’t rely on them, we only have a few.

London Marathon Ballot, CRN Club entry – CRN is affiliated to UKAA and we get a free London marathon place as a result.  If you’ve had a rejection slip from London Marathon Ballott 2018 you are entitled to enter a draw for the Club place which is guaranteed entry.  To qualify you must have the  rejection slip, have been a current CRN member since October 2016, have taken part in an Autumn half-marathon and you must agree to raise money for the Crunch charity for 2018 (Hospiscare).  You must also agree to wear a CRN top for the marathon.  If you can satisfy all of these criteria please give Julie Box your rejection slip to enter into the ballot ASAP. Ballott date to be announced soon.

Marathon and Half Marathon Training, Saturday mornings – We are in the process of planning these training groups.  If you are interested in attending please add your name to the sign up sheets on club nights.  Once we have gauged the level of interest we will publish the dates and the mileage targeted each week.

Really unfriendly weather – If there is snow, lots of ice, severe winds etc the club may cancel club runs. This may be anounced right up to the late afternoon of the run, so keep abreast of any announcements by checking here or on social media. If you choose to run anyway without a leader it will be at your own risk of course and you will not be covered by club insurance.

Charity Runs – On the last Monday of every month runs will be deciated to a local cause/charity.  The  £1 run fees wil be donated to the cause and CRN will fund match meaning that double the amount collected will be donated.  We will invite representatives from the cause/charity to join us for a run to boost the money collected, so if they bring 5 people themselves that will be £10 for their cause.  If you know of a local cause/charity that might benefit from our support please let one of the committee know or contact us via the website.  Examples could be a primary school club looking to buy some equipment; a scout group who need funds for an expedition; a local charity to support their fundraising.  We will soon be advertising this in the Crediton Courier and hope that our Club can support our local community in this manner. (There will be a few terms and conditions so that we fairly support a range of causes each year.)

Christmas Paaaaaaaarty! After a very successful party last year, we’re back to Downes Crediton Golf Club on Saturday 9th December for a meal and disco. Save the date and watch this space for details and booking. (There will be a separate news post all about this).

Crediton Crunch 2018 – Sunday 13th May 2018, in aid of Hospiscare.
We always need lots of marshalls for this event. It is a great opportunity to give back to the running community and to support your Club.  Please try to keep this date free so that you can support your Club (either as a marshall or as a runner).

Races and Events –  If you enter a race and state you are affiated to Crediton Running Network (which we hope you do!) you should wear a Club shirt in the race.  However it would be great to wear your CRN shirt regardless – race announcers love to give the clubs a shout out and its also great to see the club runners supporting each other too.  If you are personally affiliated to the UKAA you get £2 off most races – it is then a condition of your entry that you race in your Club shirt.  While mentioning events, if you have recently taken part in one please send your photos and a write up to the club so we can share it on the website, not everyone uses social media!

Thank you – for continuing to run with the club. The next committee meeting is on 14th November. If you have anything you’d like discussed, please let any committee member know on a club night or use the contact form here on the website.

HAPPY RUNNING!
